The Concord Group is celebrating five decades of pioneering innovation, excellence, and an unwavering commitment to shaping the skyline of Bangladesh.

One of the country’s leading conglomerates, Concord recently marked its 50th anniversary, reflecting on a legacy that began in 1973 under the guidance of a young engineer, SM Kamaluddin. While the firm started its journey in 1973, it was officially licensed under the name “Concord” in 1975.
From its inception, Concord was driven by the ambition to build not merely structures but enduring legacies. It swiftly emerged as a leader in Bangladesh’s construction industry, delivering landmark projects that have defined the nation’s urban identity.
In the 1980s, Concord transformed Dhaka’s cityscape with some of the capital’s first high-rise buildings, beginning in Motijheel. Among them, the 20-storey Bangladesh Shilpa Bank Bhaban was a milestone in modern architecture.
Its most profound national contribution came in 1982 with the construction of the National Martyrs’ Memorial at Nabinagar in Savar. Designed by architect Syed Mainul Hossain and completed by Concord in just 89 days, it remains one of the country’s most enduring symbols of remembrance.
Concord’s influence extends across landmark projects such as the international airport, a gateway that connects Bangladesh to the rest of the world, and other nationally significant infrastructure. These are not simply buildings but monuments of progress and pride, shaping Bangladesh’s story for generations to come.
Concord is also credited with pioneering innovations in construction, introducing new techniques and setting industry standards. In a pioneering move, the group established Bangladesh’s first eco-friendly brick factory, introducing green bricks and blocks into its construction projects. Its entire portfolio of projects — residential, commercial, and recreational — is now built using these green materials, making it a leader in sustainable development.
In 1998, Concord became the first developer in the country to adopt green bricks and blocks as part of its commitment to environmentally responsible construction. At a time when traditional fire-burnt bricks dominated the market, Concord led the transition towards sustainable alternatives and continues to be a major producer and user of eco-friendly building materials.
Over the years, the company expanded its operations to include a wide range of large-scale public and private projects, both in Bangladesh and abroad. Its diverse portfolio includes office towers, residential developments, airports, stadiums, diplomatic facilities, and leisure parks.
Notable projects include the 20-storey Bangladesh Shilpa Bank Bhaban, IDB Bhaban, Jiban Bima Tower, Janata Bank head office, Lake City Concord, and the British High Commission in Dhaka.
Beyond construction, Concord has left its mark on leisure and lifestyle. In 2002, the company launched “Fantasy Kingdom” in Ashulia, the country’s first international-standard theme park. For many children, it meant their first rollercoaster ride; for families, it became a place for creating lasting memories.
In Chattogram, Concord revitalised Foy’s Lake, transforming the natural body of water into a destination where nature and entertainment coexist.
The company has also provided housing for more than 10,000 families, significantly advancing residential development in Bangladesh. In recognition of its exceptional role in shaping the nation’s future, Concord has earned the “President’s Award”, one of the highest honours in Bangladesh.
Under the leadership of its Managing Director, Shahriar Kamal, Concord remains committed to sustainable construction, innovation, and infrastructure development, continuing its journey as a pioneer in shaping the nation’s growth.
